Autosave and recovery guide

007 First Light Save Guide: Autosave, Slots, and Lost Progress

007 First Light relies on automatic checkpoints rather than a manual quick-save button. Use this guide to confirm a save, quit safely, recover missing progress, and back up a PC save without downloading someone else's file.

Verified July 14, 2026. Patch 1.0.5 is the latest official update listed by IO Interactive.

Short answer

How do you save in 007 First Light?

You do not create a manual save from the pause menu. The game records progress automatically at checkpoints, objective changes, mission transitions, and other controlled moments. When the save icon appears, let it finish before quitting or closing the platform app.

If Continue loads farther back than expected, first check the newest available slot or checkpoint, then restart the game and verify cloud synchronization. Do not replace the save with a downloaded 100% file until you have copied your own data to a safe folder.

What each save moment means

Treat the indicator as confirmation, not as permission to close the game instantly.

TriggerWhat to expectBest actionRisk
Checkpoint reachedRecent combat or exploration state is recorded.Wait for the icon to disappear.Low after the write finishes.
Objective or area transitionThe next Continue point usually advances.Pause only after the new area settles.Medium during loading.
Mission completeCompletion and unlock data are written.Return to the menu normally.Low after results appear.
Crash or forced closeThe last completed checkpoint remains.Restart, check slots, then cloud status.Higher if writing was interrupted.

A safe three-step exit routine

This simple flow reduces accidental rollback.

1

Reach a clear checkpoint

Finish the active encounter or objective instead of quitting during a transition.

2

Watch the save indicator

Wait until the icon and loading activity stop; never power off while it is visible.

3

Quit through the menu

Return to the title screen, then close the game through Steam, PlayStation, or Xbox.

007 First Light did not save: troubleshooting order

Start with reversible checks and protect the existing files before resets or reinstalls.

Continue is behind

Open the load or slot view and compare timestamps. A checkpoint may exist even when Continue selects an older state.

Cloud conflict

Stop on the sync warning. Compare local and cloud timestamps, keep the newer verified copy, and avoid blindly overwriting both.

Save icon never clears

Wait, return to a stable menu if possible, then restart. Confirm free storage and install the latest game update.

Crash while saving

Patch 1.0.5 fixed a crash tied to corrupted saves. Update first, preserve backups, and use official support if the slot still fails.

Progress disappeared

Check the correct platform profile and account. Console users should also verify cloud-save status and storage availability.

Do not download a replacement first

Third-party save files can overwrite choices, unlocks, achievements, and account-linked progress. Back up your own data before experiments.

PC save location and backup guidance

The PCGamingWiki entry currently lists Steam save data under the user profile's Saved Games\IO Interactive\007 First Light folder, with a separate Steam userdata path for cloud-managed files. Paths can change with patches or platform settings, so search by modified date and verify the folder before copying.

Close the game and let Steam Cloud finish. Copy the whole save folder to a dated backup, such as 007-first-light-backup-2026-07-14. Restore only after keeping the newer original copy; never mix individual files from unrelated slots unless official support instructs you to do so.

Current save-related patch status

IO Interactive's official Game Update 1.0.5 notes, published June 15, 2026, include a PC fix for crashes caused by corrupted save data and an Epic Games Store fix for the saving icon remaining on screen indefinitely until restart.

The guide was checked on July 14, 2026. Recheck official patch notes before deleting data because later updates may change recovery behavior, slot handling, or cloud synchronization.

007 First Light save FAQ

Can you manually save in 007 First Light?

No manual quick-save is currently available. Progress uses automatic checkpoints, so wait for the save indicator to finish before quitting.

Why did 007 First Light load an older checkpoint?

The newest write may not have completed, Continue may have selected a different slot, or cloud synchronization may have restored an older timestamp. Compare slots and backups before overwriting anything.

Where is the 007 First Light save file on PC?

PCGamingWiki currently lists it under Saved Games\IO Interactive\007 First Light, with Steam userdata also involved for cloud files. Verify the actual modified folder on your PC before copying or restoring.

Should I download a 100% save file?

Not as a first fix. A third-party save can overwrite your progression and may not match your account, patch, achievements, or platform. Back up your own files and use official support first.

Did patch 1.0.5 fix save problems?

It fixed a PC crash associated with corrupted save data and an Epic Games Store issue where the saving icon could remain on screen indefinitely. It does not guarantee recovery of every damaged or overwritten save.
